I'm not sure forum activity is taken into account by the committee, but maybe.
I was thinking of how fucking pukey the induction will be once they do get in. It'll be chock full of words like Noise Pioneers Feedback Influential No-Wave "Alternative" and will miss the point completely. Ug. I get sick just thinking about someone (someone I might even like) going on about the Yoof for fifteen minutes, then everyone clapping, then the band just sort of saying thanks (Lee will do most of the talking), then they'll play and the crowd will like it in the moment and will applaud enthusiastically, but the next day they sure as shit aren't going to buy EVOL and nothing will have changed except there will now be even more proof of how fucking pointless the whole thing is. |

suchfriends ran everyone off...... 1971 was the last proper release by PBBB......Live Vol. 2 was released last year. SY should be ready for induction in 40 years or so......by then, I'm guessing the entire HOF ceremony will all be done with holograms! Go Texans! |

Has anyone been inducted in who is still making good music?
Anyway, who cares, this weekend I found out Hawkwind have made a new song featuring Brian Blessed on vocals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8pGS4cWbHo |

paul butterfield blues band were influential and original in their day too though!
michael bloomfield was a hell of guitarist and they were one of the first rock bands to mix in eastern influences https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaV-S5ivX3E

Hall of Fame, is supposedly about more than just influence. It has to also take into account longevity (SONIC YOUTH), originality (SONIC YOUTH), and all all that up with the influence (SONIC YOUTH).
How in the hell does a C-list band get nominated ahead of the mighty CURE? unbelievable. Maybe it is the bias against UK bands.... Iron Maiden still sell out 100,000 seat venues worldwide!

Butterfield's band wasn't the worst in the world. But it just shows how lame the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is when it comes to "membership" that they would be given any consideration. The idea of the museum itself isn't bad but even that has its problems. I visited the place in 2000. At the time they had--and maybe still do--kiosks where you could put on headphones and listen to songs from the acts that had made it in. They bragged that they had every commercially released song by all of the hall's members. It took me less than a minute to find a Bob Dylan tune they missed.
I don't know, maybe a Real Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame should be considered, with real members like SY, The Fall, The Birthday Party, Joy Division, etc.--and where Wanda Jackson is a full fledged member instead of this "early influence" nonsense. Then again, there probably isn't enough $ in such an idea to make it work. More's the pity... |

If Sonic Youth were in the Hall I'd have to stop listening to them, they'd be too mainstream yo!

is it too late to say who cares?
it's like saying "you won't believe the shit movies they sell at the $5 bin at walmart!" it's the $5 dvd bin at walmart. but okay-- i don't mean to deny anyone's frustration with it. |
