I haven't actually sat down listened to this in years.. i forgot how much i really love it. For a largely free form noise experiment it has a more "musical" flow and feel than other noise projects even by Sonic Youth. You can hear the formative development of things that would become part of the band's "sound"... clearly all that was missing was Steve

Sonic Death is really intensive experience! Really a trip to madness! I heard it first time before I´ve heard first, Confusion is Sex or Kill Yr Idols, so it was all totally new to me. I think that middle part of the Good & the Bad is one of the greatest openers of SY albums, loved it immediately! It took longer to start to love the whole album, but I am glad I had then patience to listen it enough times.

I used to fall asleep to this on cassette. I seem to remember side 2 being more effective. Haven't heard it in 15 years or so.

This one and the self-titled EP I had on cassette with the B sides backwards. That shit was weird.......

BTW are there differences in cassette & CD versions (Sonic Death, I know that backward b-side of first SY)? Just wonderin, because in YouTube there is shorter version as in CD. I have only cd, never heard the cassette-version.

I remember finding that CD in the discounted bin in the small music shop, could be sometime around '95, knowing only Goo, WM, maybe one or two albums more at that time, can not remember exactly. I was just getting into SY and did not know much about their early stuff, so you can imagine my first reaction hearing something from their early era, live and mixed in bits and pieces. as mentioned above fierce acid of an experience. also the atmosphere of those recordings (somewhere in Europe, with only few attendees and that sample from French radio), the whole cover art...completely unseen footage in the wake of the internet + very dark, very hard core like, very noisy and shortcuts! I am glad I own that CD now.

This might be my favourite musical release of all time.
I had some fairly intense listening experiences getting really high and listening to this record in the dark |

great album. I haven't listened to it in a few years. I should pop it in again. Thanks for the reminder!

Between this thread and the Bremen one you guys are killing me. I guess it's my own fault for being an absent-minded perfectionist with big ideas.

You can find info here:
http://sonicyouth.com/mustang/lp/index.html So SST & Blast first made same time re-release as cassette & cd. And it seems there are no re-releases on cd after those 1988 releases. |

I have it on CD. I bought it in 1994/5. It looked so mysterious and ominous in comparison to anything I'd ever seen before.
