So I finally upgraded to Spotify premium and am finding my way. Overall I'm very impressed with how deep the catalog runs. Are there recommended playlists/stations for a Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Pavement, Pixies, PJ Harvey, etc fan? Thanks in advance!

I`m not sure about that, but anyway when I log into spotify, it offers me absolutely shit playlists (really no SY etc. just new pop hits). I am not a playlist guy at all, so I haven´t search any good playlists. But I think in today´s technology I believe spotify could easily recommend me music I listen from there. But no. Advertises are also horrible (only one time I have heard Stones Sticky Fingers deluxe edition advertise).
But yes, there is lots of great music in spotify, really much also rare albums! And you can follow some artist, maybe if you do that it recommend you other same kind of artists? |

I don't have it, but my cousins husband does and he swears by it. He enjoys more of a blues based rock music: Black Crows is one of his favorite bands. Anyway, he finds new groups by some of the Spotify suggestions.
We get together regularly with our families most of the year to grill, drink margaritas and swim. He always has some Spotify playlist streaming and it's usually not that bad. Not sure if this helps the discussion any, just adding a few cents worth...... |

I think Apple Music is better when it comes to finding new artists based on the ones you like. I used to use Spotify a ton, and its recommendations were usually on point, but something changed. Now it offers a more limited selection of recommendations based on the artists you like... It used to just keep recommending more and more artists on an infinite scroll type page.
But Apple Music has a lot of good recs. There's a "guest list" by Sonic Youth, and when I started a radio station based on them it gave me tons of good shit. Most of it was fairly obvious stuff, like Spacemen 3, MBV, Melvins, Swans... but there was also a lot of more obscure shit. |
