the new Yo La Tengo is great! real return to their 90s style eclectism whilst retaining the beatiful sonic aesthetics and production of their last two records. a success!

Too soft and uninteresting. I don't know. I don't think the shit goes anywhere or ever gets interesting. I tried hard to listen, really I did.

Yo La Tengo don't always hit me right either. but when I'm in the mood for their sound, it is just about perfect.

I have listened to this band on http://www.YouTube.com. I was not convinced to their supposed greatness, but I do not dislike them.

I'm not sure of their "greatness" either. They're not groundbreaking. But they are a fine rock band with bredth and depth.

they are a fucking wonderful band. live they are incredible and funny. the "meekness" factor no-- belle and sebastian are meek, and embarrasingly so. what yo la tengo are not are "rock stars", but they are some fucking incredibly creative people. oh check out their "sugarcube" video, it's the funniest thing and encapsulates exactly what they are NOT. but anyway...
so what about this album? huh? huh? i havent' heard it yet... |

I agree. I like them a lot. I just hate when detractors use "greatness" or lack of as a factor for liking or not liking a band. Like some kind of external validation, some "greatness" conferred or not conferred makes the band less worthy...

yes yes but oh i checked out their DVD and they have this interview with brazilian tv and they are, well so pathetic, in general, like a bunch of overgrown children... funny i can't stop listening to the music at times, though i hate them, and their faces, and i hate their lyrics... i changed them in my head. |

I saw them at the Fillmore last night. First time seeing them, and wow. Definitely one of the best shows Ive been to in recent years. Extremely energetic and they played for well over 2 hours. Very diverse in terms of music styles. Ballads, pop, and of course the great jam tunes. Stuff like Pass the Hatchet and The Story of Yo La Tengo, is so much better live than on the album. Go see them if you can!
