Newham General always makes local headlines. Hospital to look into rising tally of dead patients 11 June 2008 AN investigation will take place into increasing deaths at Newham General Hospital. There were 62 deaths in April. These included one patient who had gone in for planned, non-urgent treatment. There were 16 deaths each in the general and geriatric medicine departments, 15 in rehabilitation, seven in respiratory medicine and eight 'others'. All deaths are reviewed by the hospital Trust's clinical teams. The mortality rate is showing "a slight increase" in recent months and is worse than expected, health chiefs were told. A fully comprehensive audit of recent deaths is to be carried out to help chiefs understand what is going on and why that many people are dying. |

It's weird, because of its closeness to trendier parts of London, a lot of people move there because of its cheap rents, especially parts of Stratford - which by and large aren't too bad. At the moment, the areas within Newham that are in the most decline are Beckton, parts of Plaistow and Forest Gate, West Ham and Manor Park. You do get students staying in these areas, but the rise of drug related crimes there has made it difficult even for them to stay. Plaistow and East Ham have made headlines recently as centres of recruitment for muslim terrorists. Sarramkrops right about Dagenham though. That's even worse! Although architecturally It's not quite as grim as Newham. Lunix IX! Christ. They need Geldof and Bono to come in there and sort things out pretty fuckin' quick I reckon. |

I'm afraid they'd be beaten down with metal poles a couple of minutes after their arrival. Bono's sunglasses would be stolen post-mortem and sold to the black market.

Sounds like a great reason to send Bono there.

Yeah, Dagenham is probably worse. It actually used to be quite OK. Boring, but OK. Things only really started to go down hill there when the Ford factory closed, which was pretty much the main purpose of its growth in the first place. It's a bit like England's Detroit in that sense. |

Looks like the fall of civilization. Of course, I think that after the fall of civilization, people are going to find discarded Street Fighter mechandise and think it was some kind of religion. Pray they never discover the remnants of the internet. It's not gonna be pretty.
