Personally, I would have to say Brown Metal is the most superior form of metal!

Given that this thread has been ressurected, I'd like to add that black metal is a musical vomit, in my opinion. I really can't stand it, anyone can say what they will about it, but to me it's the musical/artistic equivalent to a barf. I appreciate death metal bands like Death that produced music that to me is like metal's equivalent of classical music.

The closest thing I've ever liked to black metal is Red Harvest, and probably because the industrial slant makes for more varied listening than most black metal. Plus, it also makes Red Harvest considerably heavier than most industrial bands.

I tried listening to Xasthur's "Prison of Mirrors" on YouTube, and gave up after less than a minute. Not to mention the fact that the whole video was a creepy pic of Malefic standing before a noose with some "old film" effects.

Remember the episode of Metalocalypse where they went to Norway and they were at the record store? The store owner was in corpsepaint and there was this tape of agonized screaming and frenzied guitar in the backgorund. The owner said it was his band's latest demo...

quite sad he thinks that about death metal considering he was such a big influence on grindcore musicans such as nic bullen, justin broadrick and mick harris.

Black metal rules. There's almost too many great black metal bands out there.

I don't have any evidence for this band being influenced by SY, but I'd think this band would be into all kinds of things, it's very far from traditional black metal.

blut aus nord are big into their sonic youth and swans they have said in interviews. aparently it was sy namedropping 20th century classical composers that got them into classical stuff.
aparently wolves in the throne room are big into sy as well.

been thinking about his coment about the death metal comment, i wonder if he realises nic bullen ( founder of napalm death) idolised SY. and napalm was formed as a way to combine the sounds of sy and swans with amebix, joy division and discharge.

Napalm Death aren't really death metal, though...

They do have some more death metal-sounding songs but, yeah, I definitely wouldn't call 'em death.... Well.. I don't even know what you'd call their latest material, as it's still grindy, but it isn't nearly as fast or as powerful as before and is more concerned with lots of chunky riffs. Kind of a weird mix of grind, death, and maybe even some hardcore influence.

napalm after feto isnt worth worrying about to be honest. its the bullen/brodrick/harris and dorrian, steer, whitely, harris line ups that are the best.
