I agree 'Washing Machine' is my favourite SY album of the 90's (hence my name!) followed closely by SYR4 and 'Dirty' (simply because its a great historical document of SY's Grunge period and the early 90's alternative rock scene - of which I have much affection for). I've never been able to warm to 'A Thousand Leaves', if I put it on, its only to listen to Sunday, Hoarfrost and Hits of Sunshine. EJTNS doesn't do very much for me either.

It is hard to beat SYR-4. Only something like 'Bad Moon Rising' or 'Confusion is Sex' steps up.

SYR 1, 2 and 3 were EP's so I didn't include them - I had to keep it strictly to Albums otherwise if I included all the EP's, Solo Projects and soundtrack records the poll would go on forever lol

i wouldnt class syrs as eps as such. they are syr releases as albums regardless of length and track numbers...
anyway, i was just nitpicking............. |

That was on the 'Favourite Albums of the 00's' Poll. This is just the 90's. Even though its somewhat pointless (as Daydream Nation will clearly win) the next one i'll do will be an 80's poll (as someone suggested it would be interesting to see what % of the vote EVOL and Sister get). We can then see what the board's favourite album of each decade is. So far its 90's - 'Washing Machine' 00's - 'Sonic Nurse' Yay I voted for both of them!

ATL was by far the most beautiful music they made during the 90's, followed closely by many of WM's songs.

I went with ATL - Jet Set was the first SY record I got and it definitely made me seek out more, but, surely, divine inspiration cause Jet Set is largely awful (Bull in Heather being massive exception). I think ATL was the next step I took and, wow, it's gorgeous. It seems like a soft version of SY but when you consider the details - Contre, Heather... it's pretty avant.
Either way SYR2 is my fav nineties release. That first track is unforgiveably good. |
