I agree with Washing Machine.

Especially about being 14 and being turned on to new music by them. They really were the band to originally wake me out of my suburban classic rock slumber. They were the reason why I looked through my brothers music and got me directly turned on to Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, My Bloody Valentine, Pixies, Joy Division, The Velvet Underground, and Radiohead while I was in high school.

Yeah, they got shitty after Melon Collie. Yeah, I've grown out of the melodramatic lyrics and power chords. Yeah, Corgan is a douche. Yeah, this isn't really a reunion. But they'll always be important to me.

So are the majority of SP songs, along with pretty much any band from the '90s.

the single worst thing about the pumpkins is corgan's voice.

and to say zwan was unlike pumpkins because they were more prog is odd since much of pumpkins output has a very very prog influence to it.

The pumpkins covered a lot of ground musically though so it's pretty hard to escape sounding like them.
It's a shame stuff like the chicago songs never got released as an album - it's probably the most credible thing billy corgan has done in a long time, except no one will know it. I don't quite understand that.

i never heard prog in smashing pumpkins. zwan sounded like a different band to me entirely. billy was going for something different, though similiarly shitty. and why not call it zwan? why do people say it shoulda been called pumpkins? should shellac have been called rapeman? collassamite shoulda been called dazzling killmen? the jicks shoulda been called pavement? who cares?

the latest set:

the outfits are douchey and Corgan seems to be embracing the whole machina style thing again. Opening with Lucky 13? ick.

Nice to see Hummer in the set though. Man you can't beat that!

Er...

I don't think I respect most of any of your opinions on this band at all :s

Also, I liked machina and I really like adore.

Adore wasn't a bad album, no Siamise Dream but still quite a good electronic rock album. Machina could have been brilliant, if it wasnt so overblown. I dont think I dislike hugely any of their records. The Pumpkins are one of those bands that always stay in your heart in some way

Yeah totally. Somehow Billy Corgan's voice just soothes me. Like a childhood thing. I dunno.

Perfect is a really bad song though.

I honestly thing Zwan had some good stuff. I didn't hate anything except honestly.

The solo album had a new sound that was well crafted and challenging enough.

What do you guys think of the new sp song? I think it's pretty fucking hard to determine what I think of it.

Exactly. Why didn't he just call his solo album a Smashing Pumpkins release? This is just a grab for cash unfortunately

Okay - I've just heard Gossamer and it's the balls. I'd definatly say after listening to some of the other stuff tarantula definatly feels like its going to be the worst thing on the album.
