www.smashingpumpkins.com
Billy Corgan - Vocals/Guitar Jimmy Chamberlain - Drums Jeff Schroeder - Guitar Ginger Reyes - Bass Okay this is extremely sad. I know this board is divided in its opinion of the Smashing Pumpkins, but the Pumpkins were for many of us (including myself) the gateway to a whole other different musical world. They were the first mainstream band to show us things could be different. For me as a 14 year old they were the first band I ever loved. I eventually out grew them and moved on. But I still remember the drunken nights (and mornings) crashed out on the floor listening to Siamise Dream and thinking it was the greatest album ever made. As such for many of us the Pumpkins represent hanging out with friends, youth and hazy romantic memories. Why is this important? As we all know the band got worse and worse, slowly becoming a shadow of its former self and rightly broke up. Luckily enough time has gone by since then to reflect on their work. Sure they had their pathy moments. But few would deny Gish and Siamise Dream's place in alternative rock's history. Hell even Mellon Collie and all that Zero shit was great if only for how cool it all looked. What i'm trying to say is that the Pumpkins image is forever planted in our heads. Its more important for some than the music. The Pumpkins will always be Billy looking moody, James looking Cool and D'arcy being hot. The Pumpkins died in 2000. This new band calling itself the Smashing Pumpkins can never be the same. Why can't bands let a good thing die? Billy has every right to continue of course, I understand the Pumpkins still represents to him what they maybe once represented for us. Its gonna be strange hearing all the kids taking about the Pumpkins and they probebly will have never heard of James Iha and D'arcy Wretsky.

They've been playing a lot of songs from Siamese Dream in their recent shows.

it's like Guns'nRoses almost...
Loved the Gish album, and still do. Saw them 2 times back then (in one week or so), one of them was a free festival where James and Billy wore dresses. After Bill cut his hair off they started to suck more and more I'm considering to go to Pukkelpop, so I might see them anyway They should do an ATP tour and play gish front to back, and silverfuck as encore

I think you'll find he's bald, hence shaving the remainder of hair on his head?

Give this band a chance again. They are not SY nor should try to be. There are not many people who love or care as much about music as Billy Corgan.
One of Billy's greatest assests is his ability as songwriter. Thats where he shines....yes a different appraoch than SY... |

well he did it when he still had hair, so nobody noticed him going bald over the years, as such it looks like a fashion statement and not a sign of aging...lesson for all men.

I've said it before and will say it again. Why didn't they just call Zwan Smashing Pumpkins, instead of Zwan? Billy and Jimmy were present in that band as well. I just don't get it.
I mean, I do but I don't. |

zwan didn't sound like smashing pumpkins. there were like 3 guitarists. and robot vocals! plus it was a lot poppier and proggier. not pumpkins sounding. sorry.
billy corgan also had a solo album. why not call that a pumpkins album, using your logic? i mean, billy corgan DOES WRITE EVERY PUMPKINS SONG. so, who cares that iha and darcy aren't in the band? they just played what corgan wrote anyway? and why all the pumpkins threads? this band had a brief time a long time ago when they wrote "hummer" and "zero", two decent songs. now, fuck em. |

I do think that this whole pumpkins reunion thing is somewhat lame but saying they had a brief time is wrong in my opinion. They had 2 huge albums and consistently had tunes on the radio for about 10 years.
