I'm enjoying the pleasure of not having had my cynical spots rubbed from being around whatever scene these guys are in prior to catching them . I'm really diggin' their newly released s/t , thanks flophousefloozie for mentioning what you're into these days .

I seem to find that all discussions regarding personal opinions on a band become a way of titling a fanbase.

ive always wondered what defined a hipster? if it means you like to dress well and listen to underground music, then, i dont mind hipsters, i suppose i could be one.
it it means pretentious narcissicists who feel an heir of superioriity to all around them, then fuck them, but i suppose i still could be one.

If dressing well and listening to underground music is all it takes to be a hipster, then sign me up.
I suppose it could be the snobby thing, but moreso I believe it's the thought that hipsters only listen to what's 'cool' atm. Crystal Castles now, Animal Collective last month, that kinda thing. |

That definition would be a favorable one .

Another one , would be , a person that abides by anything in fashion just for being in fashions sake - being hip merely to be hip . Doing the hair , the clothes , the music , that goes along some sort of design made by a scene and not really by their personal interests . Its a sort of safety net . I tend to dub a person a hipster when I see a the same pattern I've seen a milllion times just as surely as I've seen any pop number put together , but the rub is that the hipsters have the irritating smug sneer of mistaken individuality . |

those who use "hipster" as a derogatory term are just sad because the "hipsters" made them feel left out.

I thought it had something to do with people who want to out-do eachother in whatever way they consider "coolness" to be. That's beyond the point, though. If I'm not a hipster, am I not allowed to listen to Crystal Castles? Because I could be a hipster. |

isnt it funny when people give an opinoin about a bog standard band that happens to be in vogue at the time, they get shot down and be classed as snobby? this is the funniest thread ever..................
so to all... im sorry i gave my opinion, and im sorry i used the word "hipster" to describe a bunch of people who like a band for fashion not for the actual music (which is not dierected at anyone here but if the show fits and all...)and im sorry for having an opinion....... SORRY ABOUT THE USE OF THE WORD HIPSTER |

After several listens to their s/t , I still enjoy the first 8 tracks immensely, but the last 8 bore me quite a bit and really hurt the album as a whole . If they had left it at that 8 , it would have been a much more substancial album . Or they could have waited ? Dont know .
They're opening for NIN over a section of their tour . Hmm . |

just listening to the myspace now, i like them (not the acoustic song though). but obviously i'm now conflicted about it because i found out from reading this thread that "hipsters" like them, and if i want to fit in with the most open minded sonic youth fans then i'm not allowed to like crystal castles and must act snotily towards the people who enjoy their music.
