This is the only iternet forum I go to, because I love sonic youth more than I love breathing.
I am here because I love to talk and I love to hear people talk about things that interets them. sonic youth is not an easy band t enjoy and I feel that if you truly enjy their music then yr mind is wired a certain way that I find attractive and interesting therefore you are someone whose thoughts are at the very least, worth checking out. I love you all. sonic life BTW, before I joined this forum around 9 years ago I had no idea there were so many sonic youth fanatics like me. even my underground loving music friends were never as adamant about sonic youth's supremacy as I was and am.

I've been thinking about this real life versus forum/ internet life thing a lot lately. I have a general sense that the physical, moving and breathing self isn't necessarily the total self. I write a lot, and I'm fascinated with how people represent themselves in writing; even if they choose to represent a fake (which is actually a negatively-idealised) version of themselves, the mode is still writing, and how one writes, for a lot of people, says more about themselves than precisely what they write.
I'll take a for instance with vague particulars - the overwhelming majority of second-language English speakerwriters here write better than the glut of first-languagers. While I hold a lot of stock with the notion of sociolect, or idiomaticisms [sic], it's always apparent when someone lacks the pride to write well - perhaps it's the awareness of English being a second-language for some that prevents this? Generally, I don't expect too much of the internet. Sleep with a dog, rise full of fleas. If it's a bad thing, it's because I'm wasting my time, but I don't believe in apologising for what one does compulsively - this says a lot about a person, which is why this forum is nothing like a broad cross-section of the sorts of people who like SY - if you hate yourself for posting, that's really something you need to look at in yourself. What I like about this forum is that there's a few posters who are capable of dipping from serious comment [je suis un prick] to retarded, asinine horsebollocks at the flick of a mouse.

I am an "english as a second language" person and I too find that native english speakers can tend to be lazy in their written communication. don;t know why though.
in many languages there is a differenece between a formal and a casual spanish has this, so does japanese and french and german, but english does not. maybe that's part of it?
