I 've just bought The great Annihilator by Swans, but I don't know this band very well. Can I have your suggestions ( the best album to start, your favourite's....) ?
PLEASE. |

Children Of God is kind of a good all-rounder, showing several sides of Swans, but my alltime favorite is Cop. Very few albums as brutal as that one.

I was strolling around today on a gloriously sunny evening with the Cop album in my headphones, id forgotten how it so often puts a smile on my face when used in the most incongruent context

man, i cant even imagine how unfuckingbelievable an early sonic youth/swans nyc gig must have been.
i mean, no wave was done, people thought experimental punk music was done for the city. and here were these two bands, tuning their cheap guitars all sorts of wierd fucking ways, turning their amps up to 10 combining the ferocity of the stooges, the experimental improv tendencies of free jazz, and the confrontational aspect of the early new wave bands, and creating the most fascinating guitar based music since, well, no wave. nyc music lived on!

My favorite is Children of God, but I love them all. World of Skin was pretty cool too. I mostly like them with Jarboe the best, but fully appreciate the early days.
