Can anyone identify the band or number in this old Kristy McNichol after-school special from 1975, Me & Dad's New Wife? It starts around the 33-minute mark, when the boys and girls are heading into the junior-high gym for the dance. It picks up audibly as McNichol and Leif Garrett have a go at one another.

I've been asking about. Some people have suggested that it might be a 'stock' or 'library' recording. I have my doubts, for it was usually instrumental classical, jazz or psychedelic lounge music that comprised stock music well into the '70s. The band in question sounds like it has its chops down--not participating in a one-off performance of a number they couldn't give a damn about.

It sounds like a Detroit or New York band of the Brownsville Station / Stooges / Starz persuasion.

Anyway, take a listen and tell me what you think:

It may be a cover of Frampton's "All I Want To Be (is by your side)"

I was trying to catch the lyrics, or any phrase that would be searchable, but it is hard to tell. You iphone cannot match any music made before 1990?

Pollard was a Texan when he took out Brady

Pollard has been one of my all-time favorite players for his 4-0 (Brady, Welker, Gronk, and Ridley last year) record destroying Pats players with injuries, all on perfectly legitimate, clean, and legal hits. The guy is a pro at hitting hard but hitting clean, in fact, NONE of those guys he injured ever even once insinuated that the guy is a dirty player. That, and he has always been a vocal Christian in his locker room, something which John Harbaugh especially appreciated. When we picked him up on the Ravens, its precisely for his expertise as finding Patriots achilles' heel, and in truth, he is precisely why we finally got over our New England demons and beat those arrogant fucks to make it to the Super Bowl, and win. Fuck them. I miss Bernard already, but we had to let him go, guy was going to make too much money and John wanted a clean house on defense. By the way, even though Ravens are 4-5 its a strategy that worked, letting Reed, Pollard, and Ellerbe go was fantastic, our defense is back in the top-10 where Ravens belong, and none of those guys have made a significant impact in Houston, Tennesse, or Miami. Ravens have a knack for knowing just when to cut guys, we've never let somebody go worth keeping. We will always cherish our BMK days, if for making Bill Simmons quietly weep in the shower alone!

Turns out, it was Daniel Edwardson and Seamus Sell. The album was never officially released, but their tracks wound up as part of a KPM unofficial release in '74. This ('All I Want to Be'), along with other tracks like 'Everyday Sunshine', is available on iTunes.

Thanks to the folk at Rate Your Music for doing the detective work.

can you imagine the hundreds of bands that sounded like that back then?

there was nothing really that unique about the song.

Total shot in the dark here, but I'm guessing it could be: Black Oak Arkansas

I remember a few of their songs having some Alice Cooper sounding riffs.
