My town is known for its brothels, they are illegal here..but everyone turns a blind eye. The street that the brothels are on, is the same st that the police station is on, but because they didnt want to be, they split the street in half, so it changes as you get further along.

Someone i know made me think of this because every now and then they'll go on the game when strapped for cash and they did so recently.I'm all for doing what you like for as long as you don't hurt yourself or others.I couldn't do it myself.

its legal in a lot of countries you would be suprised. i guess that they should have licensed brothels so at least women would not have to walk the streets and get into strangers cars. it will never be completely irradicated so you may as well control it.

An aside: I went to school at Loyola in Chicago, and they were not allowed to form sororities, as the cohabitation of a certain number of females in one dwelling constituted a brothel. Fraternities, however, were perfectly legal.

Anyhow, I'm a proponent of legalization. Not necessarily in the interests of protection, since choosing that profession is an agreement to incur the accompanying risks of abuse/disease, but because selling one's body for sex is an issue of personal choice and responsibility. While there are certain gray areas, I don't generally feel it is the authorities' job to protect members of the general public against their own bad behavior.

For example: the clean needle program. While I realize it reduces disease in general, and consequently, the burden on taxpayers for the cost of healthcare, I personally don't think governmental action ought to be taken to make such behavior safe, simply because "they're going to do it anyhow." While it sounds a bit harsh, contracting disease is something that ought to weed that kind of epidemic out.

While I'm not comparing this precisely to prostitution (I'm not saying all whores and addicts should be offed), the same principle applies. You want a little cooch, you have to be willing to pay the price, both literally and figuratively.

That falls under the umbrella of "not protecting people from their own bad behavior" as well, does it not?

But the cases of human trafficing and exploitation come about because of the illegal staus of the profession.

The issue of desease is very important but it has to be said that there are also many other 'types' of prostitution that never require sexual intercourse.This person i've mentioned told me that this guy asked him to sniff him and that was it.For as much as i find that sick myself,it is also an indication of what the market requires and has to offer.

To clarify, I don't have any moral objections to prostitution. Frankly, I'm indifferent. I wouldn't do it myself, but it's an entirely personal choice, and defined by each individual's values system. Is it conceptually any different from compromising one's ideals to take a corporate sales job, for example?
