this is what we have in Berlin:
That first picture is Berlin-Marzahn, in the eastern part of the city, but in the West, they also had some style (here's Märkisches Viertel in the second picture): |

Nothing can beat this.
Ugliest fucking place in the whole world. One of the parts of Bratislava called Petrzalka. Damn, I'm fortunate I don't live there.

Ha, I wanted to post a picture of Petrzalka too!!!
I did remember the name (with the accent thingy on the z!), as I stayed in one of those flats myself for about a week once. I wouldn't call it the ugliest place on earth though. OK, it's not pretty, but at the time I thought it looked really fascinating. I remember indeed taking a panorama of pictures from up where the castle is, looking down at the wide stretch of concrete blocks on the south bank of the river. Wikipedia has a picture from that viewpoint. It's not the whole panorama of course but it gives an idea of what the view is like from the castle. |

I see Petrzalka is quite a phenomenon around Europe
porkherrie, yes, the view from the castle on the other bank of Danube is quite fascinating. By the way, in the meantime, many new buildings and skyscrapers keep arising in the City and look at that what's behind the bridge nowadays:

Buildings aren't the problem. It's the people you put in them.

I guess Petrzalka is certainly something that sticks with you when you're in Bratislava. Also for me it was the first time I saw old-school communist Plattenbau architecture. It's weird that I just realised that I only know the German term for it. I don't even know if there's a dutch word for it (which doesn't mean we don't have plenty of ugly appartments blocks ourselves though!)
What is that thing behind the bridge and is it finished or is it still in progress? The last time I was in Bratislava was about 10 years ago so I'm sure a lot of it will look different now. Maybe I'll get to see it again someday. |

yes, that's why Chernobyl looks so beautiful. I just remembered someone (maybe waxy?) posted a link on the old board to a site that had pictures of an abandoned Japanese island. I forgot the name but it looked really fascinating. |

It's still in progress, for God's sake . A lot of high-rises have been built in the recent past years which is good, because it gives the city a bit of a modern look.

haha, ok... I thought it would be, but I just had to exclude the possibility of it being a 20 storey parking garage or some thing. |
