What are those bands that you felt made a great contribution to 'alternative' music but which seem to have been almost entirely written out of its history?

Loop spring immediately to mind as an example of a great band that now seem to have no recognition whatsoever beyond that of a few myspace enthusiasts and a couple of posters here.

I thought he was revered enough..

Not enough as he deserves. As a musician alone, it would be good if he was more influential.

I don't see George Clinton being mentioned all the time as, say, Dinosaur Jr. That was my little stab at happiness, I suppose. The Fall? No way, if anything I skip anything that's written about them if I can, now. They have become the Aphex Twin of numerous mentions. Radio Birdman or The Scientists, I totally agree, but not The Fall.

However, as influential as they have been to the history of "alternative" music, I would say that they warrant a bit more attention.

I don't think being on the cover of The Wire close to thirty years after the fact exactly constitutes fame and stardom.

I'm not even a fan of The Fall. I do see a lot of direct and indirect influence on "alternative" music from the 80's to the present that isn't generally recognized as something derived/inspired by Smith & company.

In a forum that is over 75% white, almost 100% indie-bitch and about 50% below the age of 20, you couldn't expect to find many enthusiasts of classic funk, could you? You're way more likely to find fans of Dinosaur here, thats all I was saying.

Round here, I entirely agree with you. Luckily, in the real world, I know some actual people who listen to actual music that you can actually dance to.

Maybe Sensational and Delia I would agree with.

I'd like to add my ten pence of Urusei Yatsura, Stony Sleep and Prolapse. But that's probably more from my teenage years than anything else.
