I actually feel sick to the stomach right now because I didn't know about this... but I remember thinking when Thurston did the radio 6 live thing that it would be just like him to do an impromptu gig somewhere in London en route to or from Paris.
Damn.

yes, i'm terribly sorry for bringing this topic on here.
i understand many people are going to be pissed off for missing it... and since nobody mentioned it here there have to be many people who missed it... bad idea to make such an awesome gig a secret show. anyway, hopefully my recording of the moore/labrecque/moloney gig will bring some consolation. (it's coming) |

Hey no worries... I would rather know about it than not know... if that makes any sense.
It still hurts though!.

yes, but would you like to know about it this soon?
i found out about missing a moore/winant/o'rourke gig several years after it happened. it didn't hurt that much anymore, but if i would have found out the week after it i know i would have been angry... but i had the same thoughts as you, it felt strange that thurston would just be in london for a 10 minute radio interview/session and nothing else. anyway, we can always hope for something like this at atp in december. |

What annoys me the most is the fact that the majority people who did see it probably didn't really appreciate what they were witnessing... the Old Blue Last usually puts on the type of gig that is at the vacuously trendy end of the so called alternative London spectrum.
Or maybe I'm just getting a little bitter in my old age!. But Hell yeah roll on ATP.

Hi, I wrote the above (and I'm glad people found it). Thurston played a 30 minute noise set with Indoor Eagle. I did attempt to record it with my iRiver but I've not yet fiddled with the recording. I'll happily post a link up here when I have but I can't guarantee much about the quality. Cheers Theo http://iShotTheDeputy.com |

the gig was orgaanised by the great hipster tome that is vice magazine. they mention it briefly and have a couple of photos on their website, in the blog section.

gay. why don't they publicise these things? another smack in the face to sonic youth fans (and come june we will be asked to swallow the greatest insult of all, Rather Ripped). i signed up to the old blue last mailing list as they frequently put on good secret shows, but they never send out any emails.

yes, it's pretty lame.
however the appearance of moloney and corsano must have been announced in advance. at least it was posted on the ecstatic peace site on april 21st. |

I think it was a coincidental thing? Thurston was over to do the 6 Music intervew and I guess he just stuck around? Maybe not...certainly I was 'lucky' to be working late that day otherwise I'd have been home and not been inclined to leave when I heard the news.
