i tried to avoid the film for so long because i wanted to read the book first, but i caught the movie one time on tv, i was half asleep and saw like pretty much just the end of it. for some reason.

last week, i was talking to a friend and we started discussing how lame las vegas is and what would we do if we went there (see tom jones, sigfried and roy, stuff like that) when the all of a sudden we started talking about fear and loathing..., that kinda set a trigger and i ended up renting the movie yesterday. now i'm obssessed with it, it's so good, love the story, the acting, the narrative; i will definitely read the book but right now the movie is good enough.
so discuss the quest for the american dream. (book, film, both, whatever)

ohh, and one more thing, would anyone happen to have a list or know where i can find one with all the songs that are used in the movie? for some reason, the dvd i rented had the lettering too small and couldn't make what were some of the titles/performers, not even with the zoom function. i tried looking for it on imdb and no such luck.

the book is better. it's good that you saw the movie first.

It's fun to try and figure out what they are saying because a lot of times they are mumbling a bunch of crazy shit with weird ass metaphors and what not. The book can help clarify a lot of the things they are saying that you don't quite catch right away. Oh and if you like Thompson, then check out some of his interviews/lectures that you can find on Soulseek or whatever.

"I can't properly explain myself in this climate." I feel like that all the time.

Here's a goody too. I think it is from one of his articles he wrote for ESPN if I recall.

"Bush is a natural-born loser with a filthy-rich daddy who pimped his son out to rich oil-mongers. He hates music, football and sex, in no particular order, and he is no fun at all."

yeah, i had to watch it the second time with the subtitles on, next time, i'll watch it without subtitles, and see what i can make up of it.

i'll check out the thompson stuff. wiki has a quote of his where he says that nixon was a terrible person and crappy and blah blah but if he were running for president right now against george w bush, he would happily vote for him.

so many funny dialogues, i can't remember most of them but i know they are in it.

ithe film was great, depp didn't even look like himself.. the book is great, many many details lost during capturing it on film..
the day hunter thompson died, i stayed home, closed the curtains midday and watched the whole thing all over again..

The Rum Diary is Thompsons best book. Nice picture of Burroughs btw, in my opinion he blows HST out of the water.

one of my favourite tompson quotes runs something like:
"in 68 Nixon seemed to me to be a completely humourless man, I couldn't imagine him laughing at anything except, perhaps, a paraplegic who wanted to vote democratic but couldn't quite reach the lever."

Fear and loathing is one of the most readable books I've ever picked up, had it finished in less than a day without trying particularly hard at all. He may not be earth shattering in many respects, but he is so much fun to read.

Film's good too.

Borroughs is a writer, a novelist.

HST was a journalist.

two completely different fields, two completely different writers.

apples and oranges man, apples and oranges.

I have never enjoyed a Burroughs book. I find them tedious and dull.

HST is the man.

I've never seen the film, but I'm a pretty big Thompson fan. The book is really good though and you should definitely read it.

Yeah, on Demonoid there's something called the HST pack?
Anyway, it has Where the Buffalo Roam, Fear and Loathing in Gonzovision, and Breakfast with Hunter.
Pretty informative and very interesting.

(I didn't check those links, so you might as well have posted what I just rambled about)
