In Australian, both major political parties are rather religious. The party that is currently in is about to pass a law to stop gay couples from adopting. Both parties will not commit to foreign aid if it involves abortions, and the leader of the opposition was told by some religious figure here that he would go to hell if he decided to support stem cell research. Basically, we have no "non religious" alternative for government here. Why can't christain people accept that many of us do not have christian values? I don't think it's fair that us non christians have to abide by christian laws set in place by the government. That's why I like the American democrat party. Discuss.

See that's what I mean. No one gives the Greens a chance, but they are my preferred party. I did an assignment on Bob Brown and he seems like a good guy, I agree with a lot of the Greens policies too.

Maybe so but the American Democratic party has PR'd quaint ideas like separation or church and state a couple years ago. In fact it is perhaps the single most defining feature of my use of the phrase "post-9/11."

So Kevin07 is a christian, who cares he is far less evil than the current scum fuck that has been controlling our land for the last 11 years. There is actually over 70 federal parties involved in the election, and you have a right to vote for any of them if you vote below the line, however if you waste your vote and vote above then your preferences are handed over on your behalf. These small parties can enact change even if they only get one seat in the upper house. I understand your angst slightly but I'm over it I had the same thoughts when i was 17 turning 18 and just about to vote in my first federal election (keating v howard). I also want to be able to get a beer at a pub on good friday............................................ ........

I can't think of one American Presidant (and certainly not modern presidant) who didn't have a belief in Jesus. I'm looking forward to the first Muslim canidate. As for the first Agnostic or Atheist canidate, baby steps, baby steps.

Well several of the men we call the "founding fathers" weren't Christians at all. Many of them were actually Deists, such as our third president Thomas Jefferson, as noted above. That's why I get so annoyed when people in this country claim it was founded on Christian values. People who make those kind of claims sadly don't know much about the history of their own country.
