In 1988 or '89, some Spanish magazine named (I believe) Munster published an issue containing a split 7", featuring Sonic Youth doing a live version of 'Silver Rocket' on the A-side, and two numbers by the Miracle Workers on the flip'. Does anyone out there possess a copy of this rarity? Would he or she be so kind as to rip and upload for the sake of all us die-hards...?
In fact, a copy of this rarity sold on ebay this past weekend for around $31 U.S. The winner/buyer was someone from France calling him- or herself stefb1975. If we all sent this person a message begging him or her to make a fresh rip of this unplayed copy and upload it to the forum or SoulSeek or someplace, s/he just might oblige and supply us a (seemingly) rare treat. I've already done the bit, myself, sending a message just after I'd awakened to discover I'd been outbid. Incidently, are you on this forum, Stefb1975...? |

wow. I was perusing SY 7"s on ebay this weekend, and missed this. I've never seen this, nor heard of it. That cover is amazing. I don't even want a rip... I want that freaking 7" !!!

Yes, that's the one. I was in dire need of sleep (went to bed around 4:30 AM, leaving a maximum bid of only $23 on the board), so I wasn't up in time to slam home a last-second bid when it ended around 8 or 8:30 AM. But anyway, if someone here at the forum has a decent copy, do us a favour: please rip and share. Actually, that gives me a pretty good idea for a thread in itself: a 'Sonic Youth: Legit Rarities Wanted for Upload' thread. There are about half a dozen rare 7- or 12-inch pieces, released legitmately, that a helluva lot of fans can never seem to find even MP3 copies of, let alone the actual records; and when they do turn up on ebay or wherever, they usually have to behave like cutthroat arseholes, bidding nastily against dozens of other fans, and paying an arm and a leg for them in the end. |

Oh right. I don't bid nastily then. I input bid with right hand, give "wanker" sign to other bidders with left.

Just stumbled across this thread - I've got a copy of this, which until about 10 minutes ago had never been separated from the mag. Sadly, I've got no way of ripping it at present.
It's not a great quality recording, and pretty standard run-through of the song really. Thurston introduces it as "Spanish... Rocket.. to the moooon" - dunno if that'll ring any bells for someone with an encyclopedic knowlege of live shows from the era... |

Actually, the fellow who won the copy on ebay (Stefb1975) was nice enough to rip and upload it to SoulSeek, and then e-mail to inform me of it. However, the version of SoulSeek that he's using mustn't match up with either of the two versions (156 and 157 Test 8) that I have installed, for I haven't come across it yet. Maybe he's using Test 12. Whatever the case, check with your version of SoulSeek, and if you come across it, nab it (and The Miracle Workers' b-side), and share it with the rest of the forum via Mediafire or something. |
