Give a brief description.
Here's my recommendation Gary Wilson- Mary Had Brown Hair Sort of new wave with a bit of a lounge vibe to it. Songs are about girls that Gary Wilson knew living in Endicott, New Jersey. Lyrics are very obsessive and stalkerish (like "Gary's in the park and you know that he's waiting for you"). Great stuff. If you enjoy Captain Beefheart or Frank Zappa, you'd love Gary Wilson. |

Are they burning teh cash?
Here's another: The For Carnation- Self Titled Brian McMahan's project after Slint. Super chill shit. Like post-rock's take on acid rap/trip hop. |

PRONG - POWER OF THE DAMAGER
sounds like a ton of bricks projected on your teeth. in the distance you hear the dentist yelling for some more, and no painkillers will be prescribed. |

hmm.
thinking fellers union local # 282 - mother of all saints. Just brilliant. Not my favorite album of all time, but the best album by one of the best bands of all time. Does that count? cerberus shoal - mr. boy dog Just brilliant. gastr del sol - upgrade and afterlife Life-affirming. With all the "freak folk" fans out there, it seems like this record would get more exposure. Not that it's particularly freaky, but it is really weird in parts -- and brilliant. mermen - amazing california health and happiness show Hmm.. prog surf? I guess that's the best way to describe it. Surf tunes that are long and complex and filled with psychadelic effects also. Wonderful. sun city girls - horse cock phepner After hearing 30+ Sun City Girls records, I can safely say this is my favorite. Hilarious and aweinspiring. Songs to make you laugh, cry, mosh, jack off, whatever. Just .. brilliant! |

WITCHCRAFT- The Alchemist
The latest album from Swedish(I think?) psyche/folk/doom/classic rock(?) band. Actually it's pretty much straight up rock that's somewhere between 13th Floor Elevators, Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Groundhogs and Amon Duul II. Really clean catchy riffs, cool accent on the singing, a little bit dorky lyrics about kingdoms, dragons, ashes of the magician, serpents etc but it rocks well.

yeah, i haven't heard the mermen in probably 10 years, they are (were?) awesome.
james blackshaw - the cloud of unknowing: amazing solo guitar raga astral drony acoustic dom core post meta, whatever. electric wizard - witchcult today: blackened sabbath with tons of mood and awesome riffs, more stoner than boner if you like. if you like boner and haven't got one, rip up dopethrone. aerosmith - rocks: forget the comparisons, forget the power ballads, forget steven tyler is actually in the band; this album is stonesy glitter gutter rock mixed with the dolls' stonesy glitter gutter rock wrapped up in some superbad funky rolling rhythms forming their best songs ever in one place. |

Aidan Baker & Thisquietarmy - "Orange" EP
For me, an essential ambient album. Dark yet hopeful, brooding yet soothing, melodic yet experimental. Wonderful. Ideal for long rides on night trains.

Every time I try to recommend a record, it feels totally ridiculous to recommend music to anybody.
