there, I said it. take that hipsters who are scared of music that is accepted by the mainstream! Its not just propaganda, Hendrix is the best! who does it better? take the pepsi challenge my friend, you will find Hendrix smashes the competition. this flood of Hendrix DVDs at affordable prices is a gift to the youth who continue to wear their pants much too tight. hendrix is the rock hero that it should be acceptable to hang iconically on yr wall. its too bad people dont actually listen to him anymore, they just listen to the hype and buzz, even music lovers rarely give the music an honest hear. i suggest that you all dig out yr favorite hendrix album/concert video/bootleg recording and get into it again, you might surprise yourself.

speaking of the metaphysics of coincidence, I was just thinking to myself, wow, I have spent this entire morning since around 9:30 just freakin and smokin to hendrix isle of wright, which I haven't watched in a long time, and then bam! by the way, I am not a pseudo-Jamaican if anything: ene hesawi hebesha new (I am a false Ethiopian) tenagere amarņa new, guramayle bewnet , yellem patois. (I speak Amharic, actually mixed English and Amharic, not patois.)

band pf gypsies is one of my favorite records of all time. who knows and machine gun, those guitar solos make me feel dizzy, absokutley incredible, hendrix is one of those musicians who had something going on spiritually that very few are capable of, like he was totally tuned into his sub concsious or something... i dunno, but people like him, miles, james b, bob d, john zorn, brian eno, etc...

I dig, I dig, man. And that's naturally why it's my contention that Jimi Hendrix's name rightfully appears at the top of any respectable list of guitarists from the rock and roll era up to present which includes no longer living players.

maybe he has? newsflash! people's tastes change over time. that said, there's some hendrix i like, but i don't think i would really go out of my way to listen to him/them/whatever because my musical journeys have shown me much more psych influenced music, so why limit myself to jimi? not saying there's anything wrong with the music, but there are other guitarists playing psychy shit that are just as amazing *cough*michio kurihara*cough* granted, they both bring completely different sounds and backgrounds to playing, but kurihara, i think, could give jimi a run. or maybe i'm just too hip? or maybe since i don't mind hendrix, i'm almost hip enough? i don't get it. where does my hipness begin and end? or am i exempt because i'm black and hip by default?

love Jimi.
hard to think that people don't love Jimi. i remember listening to Electric Ladyland for the first time in 7th grade woodshop class. blew my mind. "1983..(A Merman I Should Turn To Be)" made me damn near cry, especially 6:39-6:44 one of the most subtly beautiful guitar bits Jimi ever recorded. funnily enough, two of my top 5 Experience songs are the ones sung by Noel Redding. the guitar work in both "Little Miss Strange" and "She's So Fine" is gets to me. the finale to LMS, especially, is gorgeous. and i don't wanna slight Mitch, his drumming has so much groove. and Noel's basslines are equally groovin' good shit indeed. |
