Over here in blighty they're different. Except! Walkers decided to fuck around and make things confusing by having S&V green and cheese and onion blue. Ooy many a time have I got to lunch time at work, and found that i've picked the shitty c&o flavour thinking it was s&vO

normal sour cream & onion those are the only ones i know but i think the salt & vinegar one is blue....all flavors are disgusting save for the regular ones. uuuhhhhhhh i just looked them up on wikipedia and in south america they have filet mignon flavoured ones. that is wrong. WRONG.

I'm entirely certain I've heard this called corporate synaesthesia, but I haven't been able to find any reference to it in a brief search, which is annoying. Basically, there's a faint, non-formalised agreement within various industries that some products be represented by certain colours - there's the genuine synaesthetic, sub-conscious reactions to certain words (blue for cleaning products) and there's the 'enforced' ones (such as crisps). I really wish I could remember where I read it now. Annoying.

Yeah, that's true. It's colour psychology. I studied it earlier this year for a brief period. We as humans subconciously react to certain colours which bring on certain moods and emotions. Companies do their research on this matter, apparently, from what colours to paint a childrens pre-school, to the colour of your washing powder (which is usually green or blue to to give an earthly feel). I remember the comment about how you rarely find blue or purple drinks because it's not seen as a desirable beverage to us humans - most sports drinks etc, are orange because we perceive orange as a refreshing colour. As for chips, I don't know - I assume they did a study on it and the rest followed. Some colours of chip packaging is understandable though. Quote:

Again, interesting but I think they exaggerate the power of the colours a bit too much IMO.
