Ok, I don't know whether you care or not, but I just want to share the best musical related experience I have ever had.
I have recently bought some DJ decks and have been building up a vinyl collection because I have decided that they are unique, unlike CD's. Anyway, I went into town today (Manchester) searching for Depeche Mode - Black Celebration on vinyl (because even though I was born in 86 I prefer 80s music to the crap that churns on MTV today), I had no luck but I came across a collection of brand new SY vinyls that Piccadilly Records still had in stock. After a lot of thinking I decided to buy the reissued debut album for £13.99, simply because it's one of several albums I've never heard, and I thought if I'm going to start collecting SY vinyls I may as well start from the beginning (I already have EVOL on vinyl which is amazing). Anyway, I got home, opened up the beautiful brand new gatefold jacket and put side A on, the quality was amazing and The Burning Spear is definitely one of my favourite SY songs, I was surprised at the recording quality since CIS lacked great sound quality. Once I finished side A I flipped it over and discovered 2 more new favourites, "I don't want to push her" and "the good and the bed" (which is reminiscent of Expressway simply for the length and the way the song gets better and better. The sound was so warm and completely better than anything I've heard on CD. If I hadn't have known the guitars were played in standard tuning I would have never have guessed because they still manage to play a guitar in standard tuning like nothing I've ever heard before. Anyway, when the "EP" soon ended I thought I'd check out the extra material (which I never usually do) and even though the vocals can't be heard that clearly, and even though a slight hiss can be heard at the beginning of the live material, it was still amazing, and refreshing to hear these songs played live, it felt like I was there, It was also good to have live versions of songs that did not appear on the EP like "The Destroyer" which has quickly become another favourite, the album feels like a full album now, and not an EP. Although "I Dreamed I Dream" appears 3 times on the album it doesn't matter, because each version is different and refreshing in its own way. I am definitely a vinyl lover now and I am going to continue collecting and experiencing the albums in the way they are supposed to be heard. Sorry if this is unnecessary, but I just wanted to share. |

That's a great story man! I could listen to I Dreamed I Dream while dying slowly and I would die happy.
It is indeed a wonderful experience to feel an album in yr ears as the disc turns and the needle picks up the analog waves cut into the vinyl substrate. uit always makes me feel good.

See, this makes me want to get into vinyl even more. It's been on my to-do list for damn near forever.
As it is, all I have is Patti Smith's "Wave." |
