eh, i'd say go with a mac, but i haven't used a pc to do anything but print things in years, so i don't know how far they've come as far as software goes. i'll say that all of the software i've ever used for mac has been waaaay more intuitive than anything i ever encountered on a pc.

hmm yeah, i found macs much easier to use, but ofcourse, theres a big matter of money, thats why im leaning towards windows. plus im used to the whole system.

Hey buzzo if you want some sweet VSTs use soulseek. Alternatively, if you're after some good free ones, then you're probably already aware of http://www.kvraudio.com/

I'm also looking for a laptop to make my music on, because my current one is very old. I have to make the loops in FL studio then save them as .wav's and put them into cool edit.

i would say if you want to use it live go mac (but not a macbook unless it is macbook pro), but if it is just a project studio for your bedroom go windows and build your own box it is much cheaper. buy parts that are iso certified though as all the software manufaturers test there stuff on iso certified hardware. audio is works with very large amounts of data so a bit of advice is to run two hard drives with a minimum 7200rpm. one for the software to run and one for the audio files to record to and nothing else audio files only. audio data also fragments the drives quite quickly so defrag them regularly. depending on what software you would like to use will depend on which type of box you go for aswell. then you have sound card, ram etc.....

Go with PC! Not all VST's work with Mac. But if you DO get a Mac, get the option with a fast harddrive.

i produce my music using a pc. sony acid pro. i don't use software synths. only hardware and software plugins.

i feel comfortable enough to recommend a pc. i also do own a macbook. i'm not biased towards one or the other. but a pc is more cost efficient and its good enough to produce music with. you don't neccessarily have to shell out the money for a mac.

i'd only get a mac. if you absolutely wanted to use os x or a program that was only available on mac such as logic, or garageband.

I always wanted a hardware synth.

But you can't download them off Soulseek.

Every professional producer/ visual artist I know has a Mac. Every amateur producer I know has a Mac.

Personally, I'd say get a PC for absolutely every purpose except recording/ producing music or editing visual art.

Shit me, why haven't I gone to sleep yet? Shocking.

I think that PC has the advantage of being upgradable. Too many people buy Macs to be cool.

you can upgrade macs......

lets not make this a huge discussion about the pros and cons of different types of machine.

buzzo needs to know what he wants to use it for, sampling and recording is incredibly broad as a description. when buying or building a computer for audio it needs to be spec'd appropriately . things like how much ram the os needs to run for a start, then how much ram the recording software needs to run, how much ram the sampling software needs to run, how much ram the plugins need, will the sampling software be rewiring into the recording software.

os ram + rec ram + sampling ram + plugins ram = the amount needed minimum, then for rewiring I would double it all.

then we have two 7200rpm (or faster) hard disk drives

cpu(s)

dvd / cd burner

sound card
