Okay, So I want to hunt down every damned track this band ever RELEASED. Not solo releases, just every track under the name Sonic Youth. I've got a fair selection of E.Ps and obscurer releases, but there must be more, and tracks hidden on various compilations and stuff. I'll list my collection below so you can have an idea of what I do and don't have. Obviously I have all the 'proper' albums so i shant bother listing them. And I don't really collect singles, so I don't have any SY singles...
SY collection ~ All the albums (DDN, Goo and Dirty are all the Deluxe editions) ~ Destoyed Room 2LP ~ Whitey album LP ~ 1st E.P re-release 2LP ~ Silver Session CD ~ SYR 1-6 LPs ~ Hidros 3 CD ~ Demonlover soundtrack CD ~ Made In USA CD ~ I'm Not There CD ~ Sonic Death CD ~ TV Shit CD ~ Master-Dik 12" Thats it I think, where are other tracks hiding? |

I think what PAULYBEE was trying to say is that you should seek out the Diamond Single CD single, which contains the track "My Arena" which he quoted. Edit: You'll find more info in the discography. http://sonicyouth.com/mustang/lp/index.html

Wow, what a great site, never come across it before, who runs it? Anyone on this board? By my god, my god, and I thought I was nearly there! There doesn't seem to be a particularly obvious distinction between 'official' releases and white labels/bootlegs, so I'll have to give it some time and trawl through it all. Thanks! |

Heh. If you've not already seen it, the discography will probably also be of use, particularly the singles/EPs & compilations: http://www.sonicyouth.com/mustang/lp/index.html
Rest assured, there's plenty more out there: one of the joys of collecting SY is that I can't ever see myself "completing" the collections - no matter how much you buy, there's always a metric fuckload of other stuff left to get... |

Howdy! That's my site, and I basically designed it for the exact reason you suggest in the original post, as a guide to capture every SY track released/recorded. I think it does a fairly good job of that, I suggest maybe starting @ Burning Spear ("1") and using the arrows to go forward until you reach the end (and then mentally add "I'm Not There" cuz, uh, it's not there yet). And click the alternate versions that appear on some pages as you go. That should give you a pretty good idea of what you need (rather than using one of the specific lists on the side). Have fun!

I know you said you do not collect singles but sonic youth releases some dope maxi singles on vinyl. the Halloween 12 inch with the B side Flower 100% 10" single with two concentric grooves on B side BULL IN THE HEATHER 10" single with 3 extra tracks KALI YUG EXPRESS, very rare colection of fucking beautiful noise. I have been trying to find it on vinyl. painfully expensive. There are tons more thurston's solo noise and collaboration noise alone goes into the dozens.
