Okay, it pains me to admit this, but I only realised a couple of weeks ago that EVOL was love spelt backwards.
Now tell me your acts of sonic ignorance to make me feel better about myself. Go! |

I couldn't tell the difference between Thurston and Lee the first time I listened to DDN, I thought is was just the same guy singing.

All I knew when I first listened to DDN was that there was a girl in the group and it was supposed to be loud and off-the-wall from what I was listening to at the time which was a ton of Pixies.

I find I always get Nic Fit and Scooter and Jinx mixed up, keep thinking the wrong one is on the wrong album.

When naming the album off the top of my head I always leave out A Thousand Leaves and sometimes Washing Machine.

I used to get Eric's trip and providence mixed up?
there is a reason for this but it will only make sense in my strange head and my strange 'feelings' albums tend to give off XD I can try to explain if anyone wants, but i'd rather not. |

i remember looking through entertainment weekly before i got into them. this was back when murray street was going to get released and they did a whole story on them. i was like "shit.. the magazine says they've been around forever. maybe i should listen to them".
i thought they were just a full on punk band that did one good album. |

When I first heard of Sonic Youth, I assumed they were a band of kids or teenagers. Then, I saw a photo of a 30-year old Thurston in a magazine, and that confirmed to me that they were a band of teenagers.
It wasn't until I saw their CD's in a record store, some with copyright dates in the early 80's, that I figured they must be adults.

I first thought that the title of their last album Rather Ripped, was "Rather Stripped". I misread that.

Back in 2002 i thought that both the kids on the front cover of Murray Street were Thurston & Kim's. I told my mum they had two kids names Stella and Coco, and she laughed and said "like their favourite drinks".

When I first got into Sonic Youth, I would look up guitar tabs on the internet. If I thought a song was worth playing, I would only bother learning Thurston's part because I thought Lee wasn't as important.

While your reasoning was wrong, some of Lee's stuff (ussually tuned with a lot of doubled notes) can be frustrating to new guitarists who don't quite understand relationships and patterns yet.

It took me a full year back in 1988-89 to realize that lee sung on DDN also. I just thought it was thurston in a lower tone or something.
it blew my mind also, that the burnin up single was a 33 rpm, NOT at 45 anyone with that single should play it at 45. it fucking rocks hard like the old minutemen
