I've never played any of these kinds of games in my life, but it sure would be awesome to get paid to select all the songs that went on them.

I can't imagine how they could make Teenage Riot's sprawl make sense with Guitar Hero.

they are, a little bit. well, enough that i heard them on the radio everytime i'd go to work. its strange being at work and hearing the noisey ending to that song. which sounds a lot like MBV/SY type of stuff. i remember one of my co-workers commenting on that part saying "it'd be crazy to listen to this shit stoned". |

I dont know, I feel sorta betrayed. Classic songs being reduced to a video game. How incredibly lame would it be if people's first exposure to such wonderful tracks as "Teenage Riot", Tangled up in blue", "rebel girl" or "drain you" was through some crappy video games. It cheapens the whole sentiment of the music.

Tangled up in blue...?
Great song, but I'm not sure if it's the best choice for this sort of game.

WTF? This is fucking strange. Lush? Um...hmm...I don't agree with Teen Age Riot being on here. I'd definitely feel cheated if my first exposure to SY was on a Rock Band/Guitar Hero game. I'd go so far to say I'd never become a SY fan.
Oh, and the first person in real life that asks me "Did you hear about/start listening to Sonic Youth after hearing them on Rock Band? Because they're so hXc and I think they're just great...but Nirvana and AC/DCpwns them when it comes to crazy solos on Expert." will get a Telecaster to the jaw.

Although there's a few surprisingly fine song selections for this game (thanks for that because it's mildly interesting), the very concept is ridiculously goofy. Until the controller is actually roughly guitar-sized with a full fretboard these games will forever be strictly for jerkwads.
Get a real guitar and learn the songs you want to learn. It just isn't that difficult. Now I realize that the purpose of the topic post is just to inform us that a Sonic Youth song is in the game, so please don't take any offence that isn't necessary. |

Not going to lie, I found out about some bands through guitar hero. I don't see a problem with it, getting to know music and liking it, what's wrong with that? |

I just hope kids don't play this game and ingrain Teenage Riot into their brains as the only good Sonic Youth song... if people play the game and realize they like the song and listen more to the band, I think it's a lot better.
Also, it just feels so weird to have yet another SY song on a video game... it just doesn't feel right... especially Teenage Riot. I hope the game doesn't devalue the power and meaning of such a great song. |

Well, the 'problem' is that a song or movie but usually the song has a special place in the persons imagination and has great 'romantic' power.
It cheapens the motivation of the songwriter. Imagine your signifiacnt other wrote you a poem and it stopped you dead in your tracks. And later you heard that poem on the radio by someone else... The sad things is anything that has a 'quality' is going to be xeroxed a million times thus dilluting its potency... But none of us own the rights to the song so this is all just nothing...And I am sure songwriters like to get real paid. It would be great if songwriters could write stuff to help us stay in love, stay sober, enoble our spirit but they just want get paid like everyone else... ahem.... Quote:
