20th Annual World Chicken Festival
September 24-27, 2009

 

Colonel Harland Sanders, founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken, is one of the most highly recognized figures in the world. Laurel County, Kentucky, located in the heart of the beautiful Daniel Boone National Forest, is proud to be the home of the Colonel's first and original restaurant established in the 1940's. Lee Cummings, co-founder of Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken, also began his career in 1952 with his uncle, Colonel Sanders, in Laurel County.The Twentieth Annual World Chicken Festival is a tribute to this heritage. We invite you to the 2009 international celebration set September 24-27 in beautiful downtown London. Filled with "egg-citement", more than 250,000 people attend the four-day event each year.

Again, the festival has been voted as one of the Kentucky Tourism Council's "Top Ten" Events and the Southeast Tourism Society "Top 20" Events. It has also been voted

Free Entertainment Daily on 4 Big Stages!
The 2008 World Chicken Festival featured a variety of entertainment, from music and dance to comedy and contests. You'll find fun and "egg-citement" whenever you visit the festival.

The World Chicken Festival is egg-cited to announce that for the past three years running, the World Class Gospel Tent had been a huge hit with festival-goers. This year, an even more diverse line-up of local and national recording artists are set to perform in the Gospel Tent. The Tent will be in operation on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26th and 27th beginning at 12:30 pm both days. This year's evening headliners include a Friday performance by The Redeemed, Mark Bishop, and Atoned. And, Saturday evening entertainment features The Disney's, Rev. Charles Mealing, and The Bowlings. The World Class Gospel Tent is located at the north end of the festival, just steps away from the World's Largest Skillet.

Sara and Heather are the daughters of Charles & Donna Allen of East Bernstadt. Their grandparents are Betty & Gene Allen of East Bernstadt, and Al & Tine Grijalba of Richmond, KY. Sara and Heather love to sing. They sing around the house all the time and are very excited to be singing at the World Chicken Festival Gospel Tent again this year. Come and hear them sing. Sara is 5 years old and this is her 2nd year singing at the Gospel Tent. Last year she joined her older sister Heather onstage, but this year she is venturing out on her own.

Diane Gillaspy

The youngest of five and raised in Idaho, Diane now resides in Alabama. When she was young her and her sisters used to sing together. As they grew apart, she performed with the Praise Team at Mt. Zion Church in Nevada. She has learned to play the guitar and most of her music relates to the return of Jesus!

Presley Morgan
SANDERS COURT STAGE
8 year old Presley has a lot of accomplishments for such a young age. In 2006 she became the youngest contestant to receive the title of Little Miss Kentucky, in which London proudly displays two official road signs in her honor. She sang at the unveiling of the Veteran's Memorial at the Laurel County courthouse. She makes regular visits at nursing homes in Southeastern Kentucky singing for all of the residents. Mayor Rudder proclamated her Birthday, May 27th as Presley Morgan Day. In 2007 she went to New York and competed against 5,000 + contestants (all ages) from all over the world in Acting, Singing and Modeling, she placed 1st runner-up in Acting and Singing & 5th in Modeling. She just came back from a 6 month stay in California where she has signed with a manager and 2 agents. She also has an agent in Nashville and one in Atlanta. While in CA she made a music video, a pilot show, a film festival movie, a short film and 2 national tv commercials, she plans of returning next year. You can keep updated on her at youtube.com/presleysworld Presley loves all kinds of music, but her R&B/Pop shows thru in the songs that she sings.

Lucille started her singing career as a child in Sylvester, Georgia. She relocated to Atlanta, GA and continued her musical growth there. Since moving to Kentucky 12 years ago, she has expanded to singing engagements at weddings, funerals and local gospel events. Lucille truly appreciates all the LORD has done for her and is grateful to be able to thank HIM through song and praise.

Mavis Hughes

Mavis was born in Jellico, TN, and raised in the little town of Pine Knot Ky. She started singing at the tender age of three, in local churches and radio stations. Mavis grew up listening to the old Cas Walker show in Knoxville, TN, and sang on the show in 1961 at the of six. Another influence in hew early years was listening to Mull's Singing Convention. In the early 80's, she formed a group called the Joyful Sounds, and recorded several projects and sung concerts throughout the country. She continues to sing and record, helping her husband in his ministry.

Pauline Patterson
WORLD CLASS GOSPEL MUSIC STAGE
Pauline's desire is to promote the gospel of Jesus Christ with the song he has put in her heart and by promoting others who have the same call. Pauline is a former DJ and concert promoter and has had a solo ministry for 25 years. She is a Radio Promoter promoting some of today's finest groups. She spent 2007 with Latter Glory and did lead vocals on their first hit single "Jesus Walks Down Main Street" which peaked at #41 Singing News Charts. The Patterson's reside at Lily, KY and have two children. Pauline's current radio single on Capitol Cafe is "Revival In The Making" and is getting great reviews.

Sarah, from London, has the strong soulful soprano voice. Shelia, from London, has been singing alto for numerous groups over the past years. Josh, from Pikeville, completes the scene with his baritone and lead vocals.

For Face to Face, Gospel Music has been programmed in them for decades. With a combined 75 + years in Southern Gospel Music, this Trio has always been around people who love to praise the Lord.
In November 2004, as members of a mixed quartet named Gloryland, Faye Torma and Tom Boles felt God’s calling in their lives to combine their voices and form Face to Face and they haven’t looked back since.

In reality, few adults can say their childhood dreams have come true at all, but for Daryle Singletary he’s living the dream and enjoying every second! He knows that he’s “one of the fortunate few” to be where he is today, 10 years after his first record, on his sixth project Rockin’ In The Country, with a successful tour under his belt, and this time around, he’s decided to sing about it!

Gospel recording artist Kevin S. Wilson is a native of southeastern Kentucky. He graduated from Red Bird High School in 1990 and attended Eastern Kentucky University. Through his life he has been influenced musically by various country artists and spiritually by his grandmother Ida Wilson, but being led by God he chose to dedicate his life and talents to do God's work. He released his first gospel album "Got My Mind On Glory" in 2002 and his latest album "Jesus Lifted Him Up" in 2007, which is written by Kevin and was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee with grammy winning producer Adrian Payne. Currently, Kevin, his wife and their three children reside in Corbin, Kentucky.

London, KY is looking fairly happening as well though, with awesome free festivals etc.
