I just got my first ipod and those earphone sucks.
I'm looking for good closed headphones that are not too big to wear outside.
I want to spend up to $100. Any recommendations?

Go for IEMs aka canal phones. I use em all the time and they're grrrreat. Blocks out all surrounding noise etc. Just be careful with crossing roads is all. As for brand, spend at least $30.

They are too big. I own the sennheiser hd28 pro which look the same but they are too big to walk with then outside the house.

Audio-Technica noise-cancelling work great. They are right around $100 though.

these are all closed as the px200s are trust me.

i have the px200 and they block a reasonable amount of outside noise. but here are the equiv in noise cancellation.

sennheiser do some good noise cancelling iem's for around $80au. The ones I have listened to all have a bit of a lump at around 4khz which I didn't really like but they were very power efficient and the noise cancellation was reasonably effective. my work cans have 35db of attenuation of outside noise which is quite significant, however these are both large and expensive.

sennheiser pxc150 - $195
sennheiser pxc250 - $229
sennheiser pxc300 - $329

there are others but these are the closed ones.

i'm talking live work cos i don't do studio there is no way i would use sony as they just don't make great equipment. however, all the studio engineers i know still only use beyerdynamic or sennheiser. sony aren't popular in the pro audio world in aus.

Skullcandy always struck me as pretty poor quality, trying to cash in on scene kids who thought they looked cool.

Hence 'decent'. They're fine for mp3 players, but not for serious use. We're talking about iPods here, not recording studios.
