Yo La Tengo just posted a new mp3 of one of their upcoming songs, Pass The Hatchet I Think I'm Goodking, and i have to say i'm now extremely excited. It's the first time i've heard some real guitar from them since And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out. Of course, they are a very eclectic band now and not all the songs will feature such classic instrumentation from them but it sounds fucking great. They also have a fall tour set up now in case any of you are interested! Looks like i won't be seeing them until Maxwell's this hannukah season though

Just listened to Pass the Hatchet I Think I'm Goodking and it sounded like one of the best songs YLT has done.
That got me really excited for the album.

I'm gonna check this out. I dig some of their stuff.

If they had a better drummer and didn't always sing mezzo forte with this "détaché" feeling they would simply rule...

I love Georgia though But it's true, she is not such a great drummer. I was talking to someone the other day about how we wish she put more energy into playing as Ira does with guitar. He's crazy.

Georgia's mom and dad made one of my favorite animated films ever: The Cosmic Eye!
Hippyish for sure, but cool as hell nonetheless. Dizzy Gillespie does voice work in it, too.

GEORGIA NOT SUCH A GREAT DRUMMER?!! NOT SUCH A GREAT DRUMMER?!! you fucking sexist assholes!!!!

just listen to we're an american band and crank it up or track down a live version to listen to what a great, powerful drummer she is. and that's just one example!

when i saw them do the sounds of the sounds of science she was awesome, adding subtle sounds and crecending ones. bands like sunburned hand of the man should learn from georgia on how to add subdued drumming to quiet soundscapes without sounding like someone bored with nothing else to do and actually add something to the music

SHEESH!

sc: very interesting information.

Well the thing is, she doesn't always seem that into it to me. She kind of just plays and bops her head. I'm not saying that one has to bang the shit out of their kit and be drenched in sweat to be a good drummer, but at times when you're really feeling the heavy energy vibe it makes the music a much better experience live. Technically I do not doubt her skills.

In fact, I'm not entirely sure she plays drum on that song. I'll check.

I'm a big fan of their middle period, about Painful through And then Nothing... . But the last few were just rather dull, I thought. Is this one an improvement?

On ' I can feel the heart beating as one', there are 3 songs that use the exact same drumbeats :
- Stockholm Syndrome
- One PM again
- My little corner of the world
that would be OK if the rythm was cool, but it's kind of dull and her sound is stiff as hell. 'The lie and how we told it' also uses this rythmic pattern with slight changes.

I don't think it's a coincidence if this happened on 4 songs. She's just not really technically proficient. At least that's what I think.
