Thurston is actually the only one ive met before.
it was about eight years ago in Austin during sxsw at the first Daniel Johnston show in over five years. He was extremely nervous and it was a little uncomfortable to watch. so, i was walking out for a quick smoke when i notice Thurston is right behind me. He was waiting for someone outside so I had his ear for a few minutes. I asked him why he was also outside and he said he felt a little uncomfortable too because Daniel was so nervous. I was quite nervous myself now talking to Thurston so i felt I really blew it. All too quickly I steered the conversation to asking him if he liked Man Or Astro-Man. *slaps forehead* A little funny in retrospect but thats probably not gonna make it into my top ten questions to ask him these days. not the greatest story in the world. so, lets hear yours! |

I ran into Lee outside of the Orange Peel at the Asheville show earlier this year. I chatted with him for a minute and got a picture. He was very cool, but I was so nervous all I said was that I was looking forward to the show.

Thurston was walking away from behind the be your own pet stage at lollapalooza. I kept yelling his name and I finally stopped once he was walking my way (its a good thing i dont think he heard me, thatd be kinda lame). However I still lost my cool. He was walking and I was kind of shocked that he was there in the flesh. So I asked if he would take a picture with me and he did. He didn't really have trime to chat becuase he was going somewhere and i knew that taking a picture was already pushing it. He was really nice.

It was a rainy day on october 2003.I had just finished work and decided to have a drink in a pub nearby where i work.As i'm not really fond of noisy pubs i tend to sit on one of the stools by the window so i can observe the world go by .I was sipping off my pint while looking at an old tramp picking up his nose while singing some drunken song and all of a sudden i felt a hand on my shoulder from my back.I turned around and and Steve Shelley started snogging me passionately to the extent that his glasses fell onto the floor and people in the pub stared aghast.I was shaking with feverish passion and let myself go without resisting him. After a good 10 minutes and having extensively fumbled with each other's body he made some exuses and left me there,semi-naked and wanting more of the same.i haven't seen him ever since.

Does anyone remember the thread on the old board where the starter said he was raped (?) by Thurston?

shared mine tonnes of times meeting steve at dublin gig 12 months ago. he walked by, i stuck my hand out. he stayed and chatted for about 30 mins or so he signed my syr4, he promised to keep in touch which he has to his credit. unbelievably nice guy, genuine and polite and totally unassuming. i came away thinking my god, hes one of the guys ive worshipped for half my life and he recognized my username from the forum. made the day, even better than the gig itself!!!

@ the Filter gig i was chillin with Steve talkin about music and the upcoming Kimmel gig, when Lee passed by. Steve and I were chattin about the Dead and he told me Lee was the resident sonic youth deadhead, so I began to chat with Lee about the Dead, too which He confessed he was in fact a sometime if not most of the time dead head. I gave him a hug for that one. I didn't have time begin to go on about our favorite years for the dead (after all, dead tours are like fine wine, they have differing tastes in different years) and favorite tunes etc, but I had ten minutes to run to the lightrail so... alas.

ahaha rad um, it was a long time ago so its pretty hard to remember what really sticks out was how incredibly friendly and nice he was when he showed genuine interest in asking, "oh you like those guys huh?" seriously, he was very accomodating with my inane chit chat. i do recall him not endulging me though when i asked where the rest of the band was. |
