Guess they've got space to full and can't think of anything better than an article about a person changing their mind about whether they like an old band and then imagining that people are interested in reading about that

I thought it was a great article on RUSH, and touched upon lots of different things that are usually ignored.

I only really dig like 3-4 RUSH songs.

I still don't get why you'd fight what you like listening to or feel like you should make apologies for it to other people.

I DON'T like listening to Skynyrd. However, as the article states, as one gets older, songs you hate become ingrained in your aural experience from over-exposure, and you start dancing to shit you really don't enjoy, but are just familiar with.

The intro to Kajagoogoo's "Too Shy" gets me but that song SUCKS.

That teacher sounds cool explaining Rush's interesting conceptual lyrics to the youngsters.

Also, is it an American thing to often hear Rush on the radio? I've never heard them played here, ever. Nobody has heard of Rush here, except those that actively seek them out or whatever.

Rush is a mainstay of classic rock American radio. It was even worse in the 80's.
I think it is because out of all the prog bands, they were the most "blue-collar" friendly in an odd way.

whatever they want. it is not about what you SHOULD listen to, but what you used to physically find repulsive and it slowly grows on you.

Like some people with blue cheese....

ok. i don't like some music i used to listen to in the past. mainly one-off chart singles that don't mean much to me now. in fact i find it hard to listen to much pop from the 80s or 90s now. and less poppy stuff too. i am not angry about it though. i am pure. as pure as you can be. just pure.

Rockholm Syndrome is like Stockholm Syndrome but with music. Being held captive by music you do not want to listen to but is playing anyway, like on radio stations, and you end up hearing it so much that something inside you switches and you begin to associate with it and like it.

It has happened to me with Sade (my wife loves Sade)

This has happened to me a few times. I think the first was Madonna. Eventually, I just kinda said "fuckit" because the woman had been a constant pop culture fixture since around the time I was born. I'm bound to enjoy some of that in adulthood, right? Also, the Police. I really disliked them until I was in my late 20's, and then every song brought back a memory so specific I couldn't not like them. This happened with Phish as well.

And countless 80s pop ballads. And a fair amount of Fleeteood Mac. It just has to do with the fondness of the associated memories. If they were shit, I doubt I would have ever changed my mind. Not that I ever really hated any of these performers, but I didn't understand why they were considered special by anyone until I was older, and the music started reminding me of people who are no longer alive, times that sucked but in retrospect seem OK, and having no CD player in my car for a while, forcing me to listen to the radio (before the days of thousand station satellite programs, hardwired into every new car... For a limited time).

I should be at work. Hah.

It's because they are Canadian and not Italian.
